What is CBD, exactly?

CBD, or cannabidiol (can-ah-BID-ee-al), is one of more than 150 natural compounds, or cannabinoids (CAN-ah-bin-oydz), that can be found in the Cannabis plant (aka hemp). While the FDA hasn’t confirmed its benefits, there have been many clinical studies which indicate cannabinoids can help you uphold your body’s natural state of homeostasis, counter balance stress, restore healthier sleep cycles, and generally, help you flourish through the pressures of everyday life. Basically, cannabinoids help your body’s natural systems interact and operate in harmony.

How does CBD work?

Your body is already programmed to process CBD and it already produces its own cannabinoids with a natural network of receptors called the Endocannabinoid System. The Endocannabinoid system helps us uphold our body’s natural balance, even when outside factors and lifestyle choices make that harder than ever. Phytocannabinoids from CBD instinctively fit into the receptors of the Endocannabinoid System due to the similar molecular shape and chemical composition of those naturally produced by the body and help it complete its physical process of keeping us in good balance and in good health.

What does CBD feel like when I take it?

Because each and every person is different, the best answer to this question is – it depends. Your body’s response will likely differ from the next person, because everybody’s Endocannabinoid System will react in a personalized manner based on your internal needs at the time. The most commonly reported effects are a feeling of relaxation, calm, and sharper focus, but the best way to determine how it will work for you is to give CBD a try for yourself!

What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabiniods are natural chemical compounds found both in the human body and in hemp plants. The cannabinoids we naturally produce are called endocannabinoids (EN-doh-can-ah-bin-oydz). The ones found in hemp plants, like CBD and THC, are called phytocannabinoids (FIE-toe-can-ah-bin-oydz). They both interact with a system of receptors in our bodies called the Endocannabinoid System, which is responsible for helping us regulate various systems in the body, including sleep, hunger, inflammation, mood, and our overall state of natural balance.

When we regularly take phytocannabinoids in the form of CBD, it enhances our ability to make more of our OWN endocannabinoids and improves the communication between our body’s various systems through the endocannabinoid system, helping you stay naturally cool, calm, and collected throughout your day-to-day.

How is Hemp different from Marijuana?

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the chemical compound found in marijuana that is responsible for producing the mind-altering “high”. CBD and THC are both cannabinoids that are derived from the Cannabis plant, but they are bred differently to produce different desired results.

 Both THC and CBD are harvested from unfertilized, female hemp plants. The difference in results is engineered entirely in the breeding process. Hemp plants marked for CBD harvest are selectively bred to produce little to no THC and high levels of CBD. CBD products sold across the US must only contain a maximum of .03% THC, which is 33 times less THC than the least potent strains of marijuana.

THC and CBD both serve up a bevy of health benefits, although CBD is non-psychoactive, safe, and legal in all 50 states, making it the daily ritual you can count on to be your best, naturally – without the high.

Where does Miraflora CBD come from?

Our premium CBD oil comes from the flowers of organic hemp plants grown in Boulder County, Colorado. More specifically, CBD is harvested from the trichomes of the flower, or the little sparkly crystals that form on the outside of the buds. These trichomes contain more than just phytocannabinoids. They also contain compounds called terpenes and flavonoids, which work together with the phytocannabinoids to yield what is referred to as “full-spectrum” CBD oil. According to research, full-spectrum CBD oil is the most effective form of CBD, as it utilizes the natural synergy of all the compounds to produce “The Entourage Effect” in your body, which you can learn more about in The Endocannabinoid System section.

CBD oil is not meant to be confused with the hemp seed oil you might find in the grocery store. While it’s great for cooking and has high nutritional value, hemp seed oil does not contain CBD and is made from seeds while CBD oil comes from the flower.
